What Do You Want in Your Next Home?

You’ve decided to move and figured out your “why” and “when;” now it’s time to decide “what.”

What features do you want in your next home? Do you need a bigger home with more bedrooms and bathrooms? Perhaps a smaller home with everything on the main level? Or space for an office or entertaining area?

It’s a crucial step to think about what your wants AND needs in your next home this time around. You want to be more methodical and purposeful than when you bought your current home.

STOP! Do NOT go to any open houses yet, stalk Zillow, or anything of the sort…yet 🙂
First and foremost, you need to truly think about what you want your next home to be. If you had an endless supply of money – no budget, what would that home look like? Write down those wants…your dream home.

Now, think about what you need in a home. This list should look somewhat different from your wants list; although, you’ll likely have some overlapping items from each list.
Then, comes your compromise list of what ideally your next home will look like. Take items from your wants and needs list and combine the two to create a more realistic idea of what your next home will be.

Think about your current home. What is missing? What do you wish you had in your current home? Take into consideration how long you plan to live in your next home. Of course, life circumstances can happen at any moment and change the course of action. But, overall you’ll want to think about how long you’ll live in your next home.

I cannot express enough to address these steps prior to start looking for homes online or in person. It will save you a lot of time and energy, trust me!
